The Cellular Excitability ("CELEX") Hypothesis of Metastasis was first described by Professor Djamgoz in 2014 (Djamgoz, J Clin Exp Oncol 2014, S1), and offers a well document explanation to how benign tumors transform to be aggressive and invasive tumors.

The Viscious Circle

Tumours are known to express growth factors which stimulates the expression of Voltage Gated Sodium Channels (VGSC) in the tumour. The tumour growth leads to poor blood perforation and consequently hypoxia, which in itself stimulates the expression of VGSC. This vicious circle support a continued growth and acceleration of the tumour
